Who of us has not been exasperated by the sometimes low level of expertise and knowledge of some wine shop assistant, sales person or representative!
 

This course is designed for anyone who wishes to start up her/his own wine business or to follow a professional wine career in the wine trade, specialising in sales, as a manager, as a representative, sales person, or shop assistant.

It is a modular course which allows persons with no wine knowledge or those with such wine knowledge, to become qualified wine professionals. No prior experience required.

It consists of:

• 40 lessons and assignments divided into 2 Modules.
• A portfolio of 60 wines that have to be tasted during the course
• An Essay
• On-site Training of 20 hours
• A short examination at the conclusion of each Module

• Optional tutored work shops
• Optional Field Trip to a wine region

Module 1 provides an introduction to all the fundamental basics of wine, viticulture, vinification and the sensory evaluations that are frequently overlooked when drinking wine. You will study the different components of wine appearance, aroma, and flavour. This module offers a basic understanding of the major grapes used for making wine and their discerning characteristics as well as an introduction to fortified, sparkling wines and liqueurs.

This compulsory module consist of 20 lessons.

Module 2  deals with specific business issues which you will come across as a business wine professional, ranging from topics like: (some examples) Financial management, Principles of business marketing, the Wine Trade, Selling & Marketing communications, Consumer behaviour, e-Business in the wine industry, Marketing research, International marketing & branding, Wine merchandising, relevant Legislation, Human resources and Negotiating principles.

This compulsory module consist of 20 lessons.
 

Graduates from this course will be ideally placed for careers within the wine, spirits and hospitality trades.
